Online Strategy
Ever heard of a business plan? Sometimes I wonder. Too many companies get online and think that the normal rules of business don't apply any more (remember the dot-bomb?). Having a strategy or a plan of some sort is just as important online as it is offline, perhaps even more so, because you can be eaten up with expenses and spat out faster than you can register a(nother) domain. An online strategy is just a plan that you can put together relating to how you are going to do business in an online environment, and why it's going to work.
How Do I Approach It?
Putting together an online strategy involves looking at what you have available now, where you want to go with your online services or information, and tying all of that together into what you are going to need to do to get from today to tomorrow.
You should always strive to tie your technical and business developments together, as a tightly-integrated package will normally prove more effective than two loosely-joined systems.
What Do I Do?
I will work closely with whoever is in charge of the general business direction of your company, as well as the people in charge of the technical side of things. Bringing these two sides of the coin together, we will work to create a plan for the technology-future of your company.
Within this plan, we will address things like new technologies, how and why you will be implementing certain strategies, success indicators and milestones, as well as general requirements for the future and an overall target.
At the end of the process, you will receive a documented plan for moving forward from your current position. This will read something like a business plan, and can be very in-depth or quite general, depending on your requirements. You may also choose to focus more on the business side of things, or more on the technical.
