Web Development
Developing
a web site is an important part of doing business today. Not everyone
needs one. As much as your niece would love to tell you - not
everyone has one! Once we have established a strategy
and some sort of plan for your online presence, I can help you build
the actual web site to bring that to fruition, whether it be
via database design, or actual web site creation.
How Do I Approach It?
As with most of my other development work, web development is always approached from the users' perspective, but with a firm grounding in the technical considerations required for building anything online.
A thorough design and analysis phase should precede any actual development, preferably with usability testing and firm consideration of IA-principles and integration with an online strategy or general business plan.
What Do I Do?
When dealing with general web development, my main skills are in;
- PHP programming
- Database design/interaction
- HTML coding (I prefer to work in XHTML-compliant code)
- CSS
- JavaScript
- DHTML (using JS, CSS and combined with PHP when appropriate)
- Project management
Combining all of these allows me to produce dynamic, database-driven web sites or applications which are easy-on-the-eye and are based on a powerful back-end. I like to focus on making a site or system as simple as possible front the 'outside', no matter how much work actually goes on 'under the hood'.
Apart from these technologies, I will combine my knowledge in the areas of information architecture, usability and interface design to produce a successful system.
